FONMSOEAM VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ITINERARY

Saturday

Depart Quito at 9am.

 

Arrive at about 5pm in Bunche.

 

Get accommodated in the school, introduction to the Youth group** of Bunche/N Muisne, and free time until dinner for socializing and relaxing. Typically Bunche residents socialize, play indor (soccer on cement), voli, and bingo 4-6:30pm.

 

Dinner at 7pm in the school.

 

o        One hour orientation with Volunteer Coordinator including first Rose and Thorn* session in groups, overview on FONMSOEAM Program, Bunche community, rules, and itinerary.

Sunday 

o        Breakfast served at the school at 7:30am. Ready for work by 8:30am.

 

o        Break up into groups of ~6 for project(s) with Youth group 8:30-12:30pm: examples include electric setup in school computer room, gardens for 2 families, park (hoops and varnish benches), nursery outdoor eating area with bamboo/natural materials, etc.

 

o        Lunch with designated families 12:30-1:30pm

 

o        Break up into groups to finish project(s) 1:30-3/ 4:30pm

 

o        Afternoon activity options ( 4:30-7pm): beach relaxing, rainforest and cacao hike, indor/voli/soccer game with Youth group

 

o        Dinner at 7pm in the school.

 

o        8-9pm Rose and Thorn in groups, " Ecuador: conclusions and lingering questions" open discussion

 

o        SLEEP!

Monday

o        Pack up school by 7:30am and prepare for presentation (classes begin at 8am)

 

o        "Caring for our natural world" presentation and exchange in the school.

 

o        Depart Bunche by 11am at the latest.

 

o        Stop on the way at the Puente de Tonchigue FONMSOEAM Centro de Acopio for brief presentation on FONMSOEAM and cacao processing post-harvest. Lunch break (approx visit time 1-1.5 hrs)?

 

o        Arrive in Esmeraldas, Ecuador.

 

 

*Rose and Thorn- each person shares the best and the worst feeling/experience that happened to them in that day

**All activities will have the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator, Primary, and/or Secondary guides; certain activities will also include the Youth group (youth members chosen and organized in the community as volunteers themselves for their maturity, responsibility, interest, and leadership skills).

 

*For the more energetic: salsa/merengue/reggaeton/bachata dancing in Bunche 8/9pm-1/2am (curfew to be set by MDI group leader). Group will stay together and be accompanied by members of the Youth group at all times. No one from the group and Volunteer Program may consume alcohol.
